GROWING & PROCESSING ROW CROPS

George Chiala’s relationship with the Farm Credit system began in 1967 when he and his father obtained a loan. George struck out on his own with a loan from American AgCredit to open George Chiala Farms in 1972, growing strawberries and peppers and processing tomatoes.

In the mid 1980s, George started his own processing facility on Hill Road in Morgan Hill. As George Chiala Farms grew over the years, he expanded both the processing plant and the farm with real estate financing and operations loans with American AgCredit. Eventually George took over the management of Nature Quality in 2000. Today, George Chiala Farms is a renowned farming and food-processing company that sells farm grown ingredients to nationally known companies for the development of salsas, soups, pasta sauces and more.

George Chiala Farms works 1300 acres in Morgan Hill, Gilroy and Hollister and processes close to 60 million pounds of produce. Today George’s sons Tim and George Jr., run the operation, keeping the business successful while always looking to – and planning for – the future. The company has doubled in size every two years since 2000 and continues to grow as they set sights on replacing the old Nature Quality facility with a new state of the art processing plant in the near future.

George Chiala Farms works closely with many chefs and company R&D departments to create inventive flavors and uses for our processed savory ingredients. From modest beginnings, George Sr. and his wife Alice, who serves as CFO of the company, put four children through college, while growing the family business, building a strong foundation for success, while realizing their personal and business goals.

With four children between them, Tim and George Jr. see a bright future for George Chiala Farms and the rich family tradition thriving for generations to come.
