Strategic & Visionary Thinking: As a small ranching business owner, I understand that long term success in agriculture requires adaptability, efficiency, and thoughtful use of innovation. Operating the same way generation after generation is not sustainable. Strategic decisions-whether in genetics, herd management, or risk planning are critical. Equally important is supporting young, beginning and small farmers, as they represent the future of agriculture and rural communities.

Corporate Governance: Having served on various boards throughout my career and currently serving on the American AgCredit Governance Committee, I understand the board’s role in setting policy, providing oversight and supporting management without overstepping operational responsibilities. I value informed decision-making, accountability, and ethical leadership, and have seen firsthand how strong governance contributes to a successful and sustainable organization.

Financial Expertise: Along with my educational background, owning and operating both a ranching business and an insurance agency has provided me with hands-on experience across multiple industries and economic cycles. I am directly involved in budgeting, cash flow management, financing and risk management for both operations. Navigating volatility of agriculture has reinforced the importance of sound financial planning, capital discipline, and informed decision-making to ensure long-term stability and success.

Communication: With over 25 years in the sales and insurance industry, I have developed strong communication skills grounded in listening, clarity, and trust. Effective communication is essential to the success of any business. I value collaboration, transparency and respectful dialogue, and I am experienced in representing diverse perspectives while working toward informed, consensus-based decisions.

Technology: Technology plays an increasingly critical role in modern agriculture and is essential for long-term sustainability and competitiveness. I rely on technology to support informed breeding decisions, improve range and pasture management, and track livestock performance and health. Tools such as data collection systems, monitoring equipment and precision management practices help efficiency while reducing costs and environmental impact. As technology continues to advance, it also requires ongoing evaluation and management to ensure it is used efficiently and responsibly.

Human Resource Management: As a business owner, I have learned that strong human resource management is essential to building a successful and sustainable operation. The people involved in the organization directly reflect its leadership, values and culture. I believe a strong team, clear expectations and accountability drive long-term success. From a board perspective, I support policies and encourage employee development, leadership growth and succession planning. I value fair compensation and creating a work environment that promotes pride in the operation.

Risk Management: As both an insurance agent and a cow/calf producer, I manage risk on a daily basis. Decisions related to insurance coverage, breeding, herd health and asset protection all directly impact the operations profitability and long-term stability. Effective risk management is essential in agriculture to address market volatility, weather uncertainty and operational challenges.

Leadership: I have served, and currently serve, on various boards in leadership roles. Trust and honesty are the leadership principles that guide me. I believe effective leadership requires making informed decisions, empowering others and respecting diverse opinions. I strive to lead by example and foster a culture of accountability, respect, and shared responsibility that supports long-term success.
